East Penn Welcomes Jamel Mitchell as Director of Coaching

East Penn Soccer Club is proud to announce the addition of Jamel Mitchell to our staff as the new Director of Coaching. With an accomplished professional playing career, a wealth of coaching experience, and a strong background in player development and fitness, Jamel brings exceptional leadership to our club and community.

Playing Career

Jamel Mitchell’s soccer journey began with standout performances at Sacramento State University (1993–1996), where he was one of the program’s most dangerous attacking players. His 10 goals in the 1996 season still rank among the top single-season marks in school history. After his collegiate career, Jamel went on to play professionally in the United States, competing in Major League Soccer (MLS) with the Sporting Kansas City as well as in the United Soccer League (USL). Known as a relentless forward with a sharp eye for goal, he made a lasting impact on every team he played for.

Coaching Experience

After retiring from his professional career, Jamel transitioned naturally into coaching. His passion for teaching the game and mentoring players of all ages has been evident through his roles with youth academies, club programs, and community initiatives. As a coach, Jamel emphasizes technical development, tactical understanding, and fostering a culture of respect, discipline, and teamwork. His proven ability to develop players both on and off the field makes him a valuable asset for East Penn as we continue to grow our programs.

Education and Professional Expertise

Jamel is also highly committed to education and personal development. He holds a Master’s Degree in Kinesiology, equipping him with advanced knowledge of athletic performance, sports physiology, and injury prevention. This strong academic background enhances his coaching by integrating modern training principles with the practical experience gained during his professional career.

In addition to his academic and coaching work, Jamel is the owner of  Jamel Mitchell Fitness, where he trains athletes and individuals seeking to improve strength, endurance, and overall wellness. Through this venture, he has helped countless athletes reach new levels of performance while promoting lifelong fitness and health.

Working Alongside John Abe and Youness Alami

In his new role, Jamel will be working closely with John Abe and Youness Alami, helping to lead and expand East Penn’s coaching structure. Together, they will oversee player development pathways, strengthen coaching education, and continue building a positive and competitive soccer culture across all East Penn programs.

A Word from Jamel Mitchell

“I’m excited to join East Penn Soccer Club and work with such a passionate community,” said Jamel. “My goal is to help players reach their full potential both on and off the field, while supporting our coaches in creating the best possible environment for development. I’m looking forward to building something special here alongside John Abe, Youness Alami, and the rest of the staff.”

Looking Ahead with East Penn

As East Penn Soccer Club’s Director of Coaching, Jamel Mitchell will play a key role in ensuring that East Penn athletes have the best possible environment to learn, grow, and succeed. His leadership, professional insight, and dedication to the game will make a lasting impact on our players, coaches, and community.

We are excited to welcome Jamel to the East Penn family and look forward to the incredible impact he will make alongside John Abe, Youness Alami, and the rest of our coaching staff.
